Scholarships
We are pursuing “scholarships” in a couple different ways.
We are working to establish and fund an annual scholarship at the Fairport High School for a Senior student who demonstrates a commitment to community service. We are currently laying out the details, and we’ll be looking for a student who has maintained good grades, demonstrated high character, and helped others throughout their high school career.
We also work with local summer camps in the region so that we may send kids from under-resourced communities to camp for little to no cost on their part. We are focus on sports, music, career, and other educational camps.
Physical Donations
We collect gently used physical goods and then distribute them to those in need.
In the sports world, we find that used equipment does not actually degrade beyond a point of usefulness. More often than not, kids simply grow out of it. For example, basketball sneakers tend to be very expensive. We see many pairs of basketball sneakers in excellent condition at the end of season. They aren’t worn out or damaged, but by the time the next season rolls around, they will be too small. We are currently organizing a Basketball Sneaker Drive where people can donate their used sneakers. We place donation bins at various summer basketball camps and in our local community center. Upon collection, we clean them up, and then distribute them to others within our community that can make good use of them. We have expanded this type of giving beyond sneakers. We now collect and donate coat/toys in the Winter and books in the Spring.
Recognition
We believe that character and integrity are the keys to a better world for all. These concepts take time to develop and prove to be difficult to maintain in competitive environments. People with these characteristics act as leaders in their communities and better everyone around them.
We present Sportsmanship Awards to worthy recipients at basketball camps and tournaments in our region. We look for players who demonstrate respect for their own teammates, opponents, coaches, and officials. Each winner is presented with an award (basketball, trophy, gift card, etc) to recognize their achievement. We hope that this recognition will have a lasting effect, not only on the winner, but also their peers. The goal is to inspire all the players to strive to be better people and carry their sportsmanship with them into their everyday lives.
